about

This release will be available again for download soon!

The newest release from San Francisco based producer Al Lover is one drenched in nostalgia and a glimpse into key influences as a youth (shit, and as an adult too!). Those being strange b movie soundtracks from the 60's and 70's, early Wu-Tang Clan, Bay Area based Psychedelic Blues, and the sugar cubes of acid that were ingested while experiencing these sonic landscapes. Put all that into blender and add the live guitars from his new band The Haters and you get a sonic assault that sounds like the session musicians for an old grind house flick were drunk and spun out behind the movie screen playing the soundtrack live through blown out amps. With the biker bar fight buzz saw fuzz on "Ballin' Chain", spagetti western psych of "Peyote Spirit Quest", and horror cult sacrifice vibes on "The Summer Solstice Suicides" these 3 songs make you wish there was a movie for them to score.

With minimalistic samples (all of which are taken from San Francisco Psych Blues bands from the 60's) and the use of break heavy drum tracks inspired by early Rza production, Al creates a Kraut rock like momentum while leaving room for the new additions to his band and sound. Allowing the space needed for The Haters (Mike G and Mark Pantoja of SF based post rock band Mist Giant) to place their heavy gut wrenching guitar wails upon adds yet another layer of paint to this old psychedelic shack.

Catch Al Lover and the Haters running around SXSW drunk as shit, melting faces and playing as many unofficial shows as they can muster up, all of which will be posted on Al lover's Twitter page next week.

about

Al Lover is a producer from San Francisco. Over the last few years he has gained much notoriety for his melding of garage and psychedelic rock into spacey boom bap style hip hop instrumentals. Combining crunchy drums, shaky percussion, chopped samples from genres unexplored by most producers, and the use of multiple effect pedals, Al Lover has created a sound all his own. ... more
